Consists of the records of the Department of Oriental Studies dating back to its existence as the Department of Oriental Languages and Literatures. Included are correspondence, faculty files, lecture notes, student files, examinations, class rosters, correspondence, summer lecture programs, and some photographs. The bulk the files were produced during the chairmanship of reknowned Turkish specialist T. Cuyler Young, and provide insight into the Department's research interests during a time of transition.

The Department of Oriental Studies at Princeton University was founded in 1927 as the Department of Oriental Languages and Literature by Professor Harold Bender, the department's first chairman.
